Pétanque - the place to meet in the square

Spending time together in the town square

The town square

"The lime trees smell delicious in the mild June evening air! Sometimes the air is so sweet, your eyes close." Rimbaud's famous lines evoke the atmosphere of the village square in La Roche-Posay, surrounded by lime trees. Here and there people sun themselves on benches, whilst children play on the merry-go-round. But the peace and quiet of the square is sometimes disrupted by la Roche-Posay's favourit sport: pétanque!

The afternoon match

La Roche-Posay has a casino, a golf course and a racecourse, but we must not forget pétanque, played in the village square. The traditional afternoon match takes place just after the siesta in the shade of the lime trees. It is the ideal opportunity for locals and spa visitors to meet and to have a chat with some good-natured fun.

Lively fun in the square

The town square is a place for meeting and chatting and wandering, and much more! The tourist information centre organises a programme of activities and entertainment in the square. Learn to dance with group lessons in the kiosk...swing through karaoke evenings...or take in one of the big summer concerts.
